How does microchipping work?

Microchipping saves lives!

Tags get lost, pets slip their collars… whatever the reason, never worry again that your pet will be lost with no way to get home. Today, shelters and Veterinarians routinely scan pets for microchips in an effort to return loved pets to their families. If there is a natural disaster such as an earthquake, it may be the only way for your pet to be returned to you.

Microchips are rice-sized devices implanted between the shoulder blades of your pet. Each one contains a unique number, linked to a database you update so that you can be quickly reached with a phone call when your pet is found.

Microchipping can be easily performed on your pet during his or her spay or neuter surgery at Pro Pet Fix, while he or she is under anesthesia. It’s quick and painless. Microchipping can also be done when your pet is awake. Pro Pet Fix uses a numbing solution to make it feel about the same as having a vaccination.

Microchipping costs $35, which includes implantation, initial registration, and ID tag.
